[ if he were a kinder man, maybe hirato would have coped differently with the life he's ended up in. sadly, however, he isn't particularly kind at the end of the day. it's possibly how he chooses to cope with the matter of seeing (and committing) more murders than even the worst of criminals. really, the greatest difference between himself and them is that he has a license to kill, or so to speak, whereas they lack one.
