001. RAIN MEME

caught in the rain

it started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.

Scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.

i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it

ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it

iii WHY:
001 REJECTED - Welp. Rejection sucks. And no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - For the bus? For someone else? For some revelation? What are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - Sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - Is everything going your way? Are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? Just singin. Singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.

>> POST with your character
>> TAG others, use RNG if you need to, or just make up your own scenario if you want!
>> HAVE FUN.

...The feathers are going to take forever to dry.

[His voice is resigned. It's not like either of them have control over the weather. Not that Anders hasn't tried to mess with it a time or two and failed miserably anyway.]

I don't suppose you're seeing any lighter patches in the sky?

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-16 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
[The small tree wasn't entirely the best cover in the sudden downpour but it was better than nothing. Hawke of Hightown and a sopping wet apostate, what a sight to be had, were anyone around to see it. Hawke can only sigh, looking up at the dark sky. The rain is falling hard and it's falling fast, seemingly with no end in sight.]

Not that I can see... [He shifts a bit in place, having to remain in rather close proximity to Anders in order to stay relatively dry.] It can't rain forever though. I'm sure it will let up soon enough.

[Hopefully before the rain soaks through his boots.]
justice_is_blond: (Just a little amused)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[He'll never complain about Hawke being in close proximity. Ever. Though he's likely to deny that he enjoys it if asked by either of their story-telling friends.]

I always wonder if it could rain forever. If multiple storms could follow each other through and just rain on and on. It would almost be like Kirkwall, really, thing after thing.

[Optimistic Anders is not.]

We could bet on how long it lasts?

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-16 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
If it rained for that long, I'm certain Isabela would be pleased. A whole new ocean to explore - though she might be hard pressed to find a boat if this truly is the beginning of an endless downpour.

[He's teasing and it's evident enough in his thin smile as he looks to Anders.]

But to bet on the rain? Well, I doubt it will last more than an hour at the rate it's falling. [Even if the sky was rather black...] What do you say we wager?
justice_is_blond: (Spider hunting is a sort of fun)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
She'd soon enough have floating men building her a boat out of uprooted trees, I'm certain.

[Anders gives Hawke a faint smile back. He reaches down into his belt pouch, checking what he's got. A few coppers, probably not enough.]

Agreements, maybe? If I lose I won't complain for... a few days? Or I could offer no new manifesto versions for a week. Something along those lines.

[The smile fades as rain starts dripping down his nose. Hastily Anders puts a stop to that with a sleeve.]

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-16 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
No manifesto revisions for a week.

[Hawke had enough drafts of that cluttering his home, the incriminating evidence stuffed in just about every book he owned at this point.]

But if I am to lose this little wager... What do you want from me?
justice_is_blond: (Just a little amused)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Anders tries and fails to look guilty about leaving the papers everywhere. People need to read them. There needs to be change.]

No trips underground for... four days. No dungeons, caves, or portions of the Deep Roads. Unless there's a mage in danger. Or one of our friends.

[While he wants to ask for a whole week, he knows how often they get sent down there. Four days could be something Hawke's able to compromise on.]

[Four whole days without ducking into a cave? No dungeons, no mine shafts, no Deep Roads excursions? Four whole days was an awfully long time but the price was worth it - a week without wondering where all this wasted vellum came from, words scratched out furiously and the pages crumpled and discarded. He knew the floor of his study would thank him.

Raising his hand, Hawke ran his fingers through his wet hair, wiping the water from his forehead and moving a bit closer to Anders.]

When you say "one of our friends", you are including Fenris in that equation, aren't you?
justice_is_blond: (Actually let's go with that idea)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[He sighs and his voice is resigned.]

Only because I know you would. Yes, Fenris included. Sebastian as well, even with all his talk about how terribly oppressed he's been and how he understands.

[If they wind up in the caves because of the Elf, though, Anders is going to be annoyed. Then again, he generally is when they're doing things for Fenris and so he's not sure anything would be different.]

Make your guess about how long the rain will last.

[It was a good enough answer for him.]

I will say... Twenty minutes. Twenty-three at most.
justice_is_blond: (A small atonement)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Anders nods, looking up at the sky. He wouldn't mind being trapped out here for a time with Hawke if it wasn't getting later in the day. Soon it would be chilly. All the same, though...]

An hour. I'll go for that hour. It'll be a soggy one, but it could be worse. We could have Templar company.
unrelentingly: <user name=foxlike>, dns (It Made Me Wonder About Their Past)

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-16 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Either way, I suppose all we can do is get comfortable...

[Not the easiest task. Standing around was going to make their legs cramp up and the ground beneath them wasn't exactly dry at this point. Hawke leans back a bit against the trunk of the tree, crossing his ankles as he makes an attempt to lounge against it.]

Is there enough room for you?
justice_is_blond: (Actually let's go with that idea)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
As long as you don't mind being a little close.

[The spot that's left would wind up with his arm against Hawke's, and while that isn't anything particularly intimate, Anders knows full well he'll be aware of every muscle twitch the man has. He also knows he'll be awake for quite some time tonight due to this.]

Otherwise I'll be right underneath the bare patch. Unless you've room to scoot a little more to the side?

[There's a selfish part of Anders that hopes Hawke doesn't have room, but he's not going to force contact on Garrett.]
unrelentingly: <user name=foxlike>, dns (But Close My Ears and Eyes)

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-16 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have much room to work here... But we can't have you getting wet either. [They were wet enough as it was, just from trying to get under this tree in the first place. He uncrossed his arms that he'd just folded together, gesturing for Anders to move in closer.

Nothing wrong with being close to a friend, after all.]

Come here, then. It shouldn't carry on for much longer.
justice_is_blond: (With you beside me)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
[If Hawke doesn't mind, then Anders isn't about to object further. He nods, moving in and leaning against the tree.]

It probably won't, now.

[Now that he's made a bet it will, and now that he's close to Hawke. Anders knows how his luck goes.]

I've a feeling I may be missing the game tonight at the Hanged Man, what with trying to get dry after this. Some people may be disappointed that I won't be there to lose worse than them.
unrelentingly: <user name=foxlike>, dns (Believe; Believe in Me)

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-16 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
If this doesn't let up soon, I have a feeling my boots will be wet for days. Missing a few rounds of Wicked Grace at the Hanged Man should be the least of your concerns - I can't imagine how long that coat of yours will take to dry, especially down in Darktown.

[Hawke shifts a bit to get comfortable, arms folded again, one of those arms pressed against Anders' own. He can feel the dampness of Anders' coat from his sleeve, frowning a bit.]

Perhaps you would be better off stopping by my estate? Hang it to dry in front of the fireplace in my sitting room...
justice_is_blond: (Wouldn't that be something)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Anders isn't sure if he's imagining it or not, the bit of warmth he thinks he feels from Hawke's arm, and he wonders how many words for idiot there are in the languages he speaks.]

Stopping by...

[It's just concern and he knows it. Further, he really doesn't want to deal with the chances of taking a chill.]

I'd appreciate that, Hawke. Especially as the Clinic's likely on the soggy side. Thank you.
unrelentingly: <user name=foxlike>, dns (But Love the One You Hold)

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-16 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[A thin smile crosses Hawke's face, looking towards his friend as opposed to the sky and their surroundings now. Anders' clinic was likely quite waterlogged, Darktown tended to get a bit messy during heavy downpour. Giving Anders a place to dry off was the least he could offer - but he wasn't about to stop there.

He'd been trying for some time to get Anders to stop by. Hightown wasn't the safest place for a lone apostate to be paying a visit, after all. He needed to relish the opportunity while it lasted.]

And perhaps get a hot meal into you as well.
justice_is_blond: (With you beside me)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Anders looks back at Hawke, meeting the man's gaze. There have always been so many reasons not to drop by before - patients, herbs to distill, a manifesto to work on, the underground to run - but he's already agreed for the sake of drying his coat.

At least if they're eating Anders has less to worry about in the way of temptation. He nods, finally.]

It's your estate, and I'll be your guest. We'll do as you wish. It's not as if I'm starving, though.
unrelentingly: <user name=foxlike>, dns (Believe; Believe in Me)

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-16 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Hawke's expression turns to one of concern, his brow creasing a bit as Anders makes the comment about not starving.]

Try telling my mother that...
justice_is_blond: (Spider hunting is a sort of fun)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
[There's the faintest bit of a smile in Anders' eyes and on his lips at that.]

I did. And I can't say she believed me. I haven't been scolded like that since...

[He shakes his head.]

Your mother is quite the woman. And I'm not arguing with her ever again.
unrelentingly: <user name=foxlike>, dns (That We Were Nothing Like the Rest)

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-16 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, his poor friend. No wonder Leandra was so adamant that Anders wasn't eating and Hawke should take better care of his friends. He sighs a bit, shifting against that tree, his arm moving against Anders' own before he brought his hand up to rub as his temples.]

You can't win. You aren't eating enough, you don't give the dog the attention he needs, you aren't even trying to give me grandchildren... [He shook his head, bringing his arm down, idly letting it simply rest over Anders' own.]

She's always been quite... Fiery. [Carver took after her in that regard, Bethany too though she didn't quite have the same fervour. He missed them both. Discussions like this were always bittersweet.]
justice_is_blond: (Just a little amused)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-16 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Anders' voice gets a little sympathetic, even as Hawke's arm winds up being a bit distracting.]

There are some things you simply cannot win, Hawke. Mothers fall into that category. Card games against Isabela do too. [There's a short pause.] Mind, I'm not complaining about your mother. It's simply... different to be confronted by someone determined to care. And scrutinizing your appearance hard enough to likely know what size everything you wear, down to the hair tie.

If she looked over someone that directly in Antiva she'd be wed again, or so I hear.
unrelentingly: <user name=foxlike>, dns (Far Away From All the Trouble)

[personal profile] unrelentingly 2013-02-17 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Hawke's arm remained on Anders', his hand moving to absent-mindedly pat the back of Anders's own.]

It's in her nature to care... I suppose it's one of the things I inherit from her.

[After the loss of both Carver and Bethany it seemed that his mother had turned her attention to Hawke's companions. Anders didn't eat enough, Fenris and Merrill needed shoes, Isabela looked as though she could use a sweater, Aveline could use a night out be a dear and invite her over, Garrett... Sometimes it seemed only Varric managed to dodge her mothering instinct. And Sebastian. Perhaps his mother assumed the Grand Cleric mothered him enough. He offers up a bit of a smile, eyes still settled on his friend.]

But with luck, this rain will start letting up shortly. If you think she's concerned now, wait until you see how she behaves when someone enters the estate looking like a drowned rat.
justice_is_blond: (Wouldn't that be something)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2013-02-17 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Anders leans his head back against the tree, no longer looking over at Hawke, as his hand is patted. He's bad at bluffing, bad at hiding things on his face sometimes, and he doesn't want to disrupt this moment, no matter how one-sided it is.]

I'd say it's definitely one of the things you inherited. Stubbornness too, but that can be a good trait.

[And really, Leandra isn't so far off on Anders' account. A Grey Warden metabolism, combined with running a free Clinic that barely made enough in donations to afford vials and bandages, meant that Anders did go to bed hungry as often as not. He can feel Hawke's eyes on his face and Anders wishes sometimes that he had the courage to squeeze the man's hand back.]

I'll blame the mabari. Tell her he attacked me and drooled all over me. She'll never believe it, but it might spare me from a lecture.
